So, I might be adopting 75 Ghanaian orphans..

Honestly. Not a joke. Cutest children ever and playing with them was the saddest but most rewarding thing ever. I had realllly wanted to go take a nap but then I was like could you be a little more selfish? so me, Jenna, Stephanie, Michelle, Erin, Kimberly, and Tell went. Its called Peace and Love Orphanage and Academy in Medina (like a few minutes west of campus). Its private- not government funded- so they get their money from donations only. They dont have a website or pamphlets or anything so they've only had like two children adopted in the past 5 years. So sad. They're so cute- they're like a little family so they all take care of each other but they go to school all day and then run around outside until the evening. They could really use some help- they have like one flat soccer ball- and there's glass and a rusty machete and razor blades on the ground. We're going to try to go every week-at least once a week- and we're going to bring soccer balls and sidewalk chalk and other cool stuff so that way they can have stuff to play with. It was such a good way to spend the afternoon/evening yesterday. Had a good debate on the walk home with some of us about if having a big family is selfish because there are so many kids like the ones we were with that need loving instead. Very interesting.

Yesterday morning, we woke up extra early to go to Independence Square in Accra for Ghana's 51st Independence Day! It was really really cool. Independence Square is huge and covered with Ghanaian colored flags and all of that. There was a huge military presence and a lot of marching- very colonial- and almost creepily WWII Germany/Communist China. We got to see Ghana's President- - he drove past in his car waving- Tell got such a good picture of him!! And three planes flew by with green, yellow, and red smoke coming out the back, and a helicopter pulling a Ghanaian flag, and like an air force jet and lots of other stuff. We picked up a man and his daughter, Amos and Michelle, on the tro-tro and they sat with us during the celebration and I've never seen someone so excited. Michelle would jump up and down and wave her flag and yell GHANA!!!!! at the top of her lungs. So cute. Then we went to the International Trade Fair- sorta cool, sorta not worth a cedi to get in. Then we came home and went to the orphanage.

All in all, a great day! Today we're just laying low, hanging out- maybe playing some football (soccer). We were going to go away this weekend but I think I just need to hang out so thats what I'm going to do!
